Default Male strange wing movements

One of my males has been doing these strange wing movements for a while now and today another male joined in and did the same movements. He opens his wings up and twitches, flicks and shrugs them almost like he's about to take off but changes his mind. He might also push them and hold them down. Then he keeps them open for a while and starts to twitch them again. I've not come across any site that describes this behavior. I'm thinking it's sort of like flexing his muscles to show off to the females. I've not been worried since he will go to a high perch before doing this, so it seems to be conscious behavior.

Absolutely normal stretching! Also a sign that they are comfortable and want to make that clear to you or to other birds. My late hen Lucy made a routine of it whenever I entered the room - stretch out right wing with foot; stretch out left wing with foot; both wings back; then a fluff/flutter. My daughter and I used to call it a "full Lucy"! And if you get one foot drawn up afterwards, that is a bonus! I am sure you have found as I have that it is all about body language with budgies!

It's not stretching it's more like this strange flailing. I'm guessing he's trying to charm the ladies.

Have either one of then been through a moult or are going through a moult at the moment? Budgies will do this when they are about to lose feathers, they will also do it to simply place the flight feathers back in alignment after preening or cleaning.
This is what it sounds like to me.

Neither of them are going through a molt at the moment. I should try and film it. It's really hard to really describe what he's doing.

That would help a great deal , does he shake his tail and bottom sometimes as he does it?
They do stretch their wings and place both wings like shrugging their shoulders.

It sounds like perfectly normal behavior to me.
My birds like to do various "wing movements" too.

Also, I get very similar "greetings" such as Simon described from my budgies as well.

It would be fun to see your budgie's "wing display" if you are able to capture it on video.
If he is trying to charm the females I bet they are VERY impressed.

If you are able to capture a video, please go ahead and post it in this same thread so it will be easy for us to find.

It looks like he's just playing around. I wouldn't be worried about it unless he suddenly gets off balance.

Also, could he be hot? Many budgies try to cool themselves by opening their wings.

Cute video of little Klaus! Thank you!

In the video he's turning towards his love Demi. So I'm still thinking he is trying to impress her. He's been doing this "dance" a lot in the past few days. I don't think he's hot.
