Default older bird learns to play

Hi, im so pleased with my 4 year old boy, his mate was so disabled that he never learnt to play, he slowed his behaviour to match hers. When she passed and i brought in baby benji, he was terrified at first, i had never seen him move so fast to keep away from the frolicking baby! But now he is learning to play and have fun and it is lovely to see.

How wonderful to hear how he looked after his dear mate till she joined the Angel Flock, now he can become a carefree and happy budgie due to a younger and more able budgie he will blossom I'm sure.
Thankyou for sharing your lovely story.

What a lovely story - it just shows how budgies can always learn new things and adapt, doesn't it? I am very pleased to hear about the previous situation, which seems to indicate that budgies can make good carers. I am currently taming a disabled baby hen called Lily to make up a flock of 4, and your experience gives me a good hope that the others will take care of her. Look forward to seeing pics of your older bird and Benji!

Default re disabled budgie

I am sure you will integrate your little bird, mine was very crippled, she could barely walk and could not fly but she enjoyed life very much. The main difficulty is making a safe and comfortable place for her, i found platforms very usefull and oddly my healthy birds love them too. Alas i cant seem to work out how to post pics. The photo bucket site on my tablet doesnt give the options mentioned on the help site. Can i post pics without using photo bucket?

Awwww. I think this also shows how compassionate animals can be, he was careful with his former friend and adjusted his behavior to her disability. Now that he has a new little friend, it took a little bit to readjustment and now he's able to learn and grow and play
