Default Budgie-proofing your room

Hi!

I am new here, not sure I am posting in the right spot!

Anyway, I have been doing research on budgies for several weeks because I am about to get my very first pair of budgies. I have one question about letting budgies fly around my room. Will they poop everywhere? On my walls? Carpet? Curtains? Non-moving ceiling fan blades? If we had another spare room in our house, I would move them there, but we don't. If my birds go to the bathroom everywhere they land in my room, my parents would flip out because they are clean-freaks. (That is not a bad thing.)

Please help me! I appreciate all your answers!

Thanks!

Hi and to Talk Budgies!

Yes -- budgies poop. They poop frequently and poop everywhere.
The good news is that when the budgies are healthy, the poop dries fairly quickly and is quite easy to clean up. If you will be keeping the budgies in your room and plan to give them supervised out-of-cage there, you'll need to be prepared to vaccum and clean up the poop deposits once out-of-cage time is over.

Welcome to talk budgies. It is very awesome that you have found this forum and are willing to do research before you get your bird's. Doing this is going to help you avoid making mistakes when you get them, and help make your budgie ownership the best it can be. Check out the sticky's at the top of each section and do what we all do here, learn more and more everytime we stop in...

Hello!

Welcome to the forum. Good to have you with us!

I'm a bit of a clean freak myself (although since my son was born the balance went more towards freak while clean took a backseat). I was a little bit concerned when Clouds came to live with us, as there was no way I was going to have a bird stuck in a cage for the rest of his life. I knew he would have to come out and therefore poop question popped...

Anyway, long story short: I do occasionally find tiny little droppings under the places where he's been perching but nearly not as much as I had anticipated. True, at the moment he's still very new and therefore only perches in a handful of favourite spots. The fact that we have bird-friendly places for him helps tremendously (a tree made out of a branch and an old parasol stand, a little play gym and of course his cage).

There are a few sports that he's tried in the past but got gently shooed away from consistently and now doesn't even approach (or won't stay on without us having to do anything about it anymore). Sofas are a big no-no for example.

I am still curious to see how things will evolve as he becomes more adventurous, so the answers that you're going to get from our much more experienced members will be interesting to me too

I look forward to reading more of your posts (we also love pictures!)
