The Blinking Game
Hey guys, my budgie Lemon likes playing this game (I think) with me. It's where I blink for a long time, then he blinks for a long time, then I blink once and he blinks once.... etc. Basically we just keep blinking at each other and I was wondering what this means and if other budgies do this and it's not just my budgie? Thanks!

I don't know, but I think it's adorable when birds blink :giggle:. Sometimes they will blink the left and right side independently of one another lol.

Hello there! I think blinking at us is one of the primary methods of communication, and in my experience indicates they are comfortable with you. Sometimes they enjoy the communication so much it almost hypnotises them and they can go to sleep! And as already said, quite a few birds enjoy winking at you too. Good sign I think that Lemon is bonding with you!

Hello and yes they love playing the Blinking game, My budgie loves me gently huffing warm air on his tummy he will actually close his eyes and coo when I do it .:D

I do this with my girl Pippin, Henry is catching on as well. When we blink at each other she physically relaxes, she is a very timid little girl but ones we blink she then likes making little chirpy noises :) I love her

Haha that's so cute!! I love how even though we're so different, we can still communicate with each other like this. Budgies really are smart!

Ha ha! You can really go to town if you want to! I do! But some of it may make you feel a bit silly at first - and you may not want to let other people see!

Other relaxers:

Just copy Lemon when she does any of the following - she will love it!

- the simultaneous wing and leg stretch
- nodding your head
- the fast head scratch
- yawning
- grinding her beak (you grind your teeth!)
- the standing fluff or flutter
- the wings back
- the bottom/tail shake (not for the feint hearted!)
- the head bobbing (goes even better if you make clicking sounds in time)

I'm sure that's enough to get going!

Simon, now why would you not want other people to accidentally witness all that? Rotfl!!! haha :D!

Penzance 06-26-2015 02:15 PM

Julie, I had to google ROTFL and get the meaning in an urban dictionary! Well, any witnesses could do that, or they could make a few calls and have me taken away and locked up!! Yes you are right, it is completely daft - but I'm afraid that doesn't stop me! It is worth the potential ridicule for the continuing bonding benefits! Do you think Deb may ban me from the forum?!

RavensGryf 06-27-2015 01:31 AM

Hahaha ROTFL Simon :D! No, but Deborah may get a pretty good giggle :giggle:! Yes, it is completely worth the risk I have to agree. Keep on doing it! 👍
