Lightbulb Budgie watching YouTube

Hi,

I am new to this forum, I just picked up my new baby today! His name is Peanut and he seems to be settling in well. To aid his comfort I thought I'd show him a few budgie videos on YouTube thinking it would be familiar to him (funny I know!) Well the minute he realised what was in the videos he started chirping a lot and flying up to the grates on his cadge and franticly moving around. It was quite moving! Although I'm not sure if this was him expressing his happiness to see another bird or whether it was stressful for him as he is in a cage alone. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this or knows what the most likely cause is?

P.S. I plan on spending a lot of time with my budgie when he is settled hence I only have him on his own at the moment.

First off, let me start off and say congrats on your new budgie baby! I think its a great idea that you are playing budgie noises for him...but, may I suggest you look up "Disco the talking parakeet" and have him listen to that instead/or as well? That way he will enjoy watching another budgie AND possibly pick up a few words. My friend did that with hers and her budgie learned to talk that way. I believe its more stress reliving than anything for them to watch and listen to other birdies from time to time. Nice, soft music as well will give him that reaction as well.

I also prefer getting my budgies one at a time...just so I can hand tame them and form bonds with them I think you are doing well! Good luck to you and your little Peanut.

Thanks MascaraRabbit! Great suggestion! I have actually seen Disco before I picked up Peanut! He is very cute and a talented little speaker. I think I'll show him Disco and see his reaction.

With regards to him being alone I'll see how he goes and then consider getting him a friend. I had read a few things before I got him saying he wouldn't bond with me or see me as his "flock" if he had a friend in there. That doesn't seem to be the case since I've had a good look through this forum so I might just yet. Thanks again!

You know, I've heard that too but have yet to experience that. My Ivy still flips out and wants to be taken out and given attention when I enter the room. She has a cage mate and while she adores her Milo...she loves me first
