I am moving out of my parents' house into an apartment by myself on July 18. I feel like my bird Fiona will be very lonely during the day when I'm at work for 8 hours. Right now, my mom stays home and we have dogs and a cat so there's plenty of activity to keep her occupied. I'm worried she's going to become depressed if I keep her alone for 8 hours a day.
I plan to keep the radio on for her while I'm gone (I already do this), but is that enough?
She is coming along quite nicely with her training, she steps up pretty well if I'm holding millet, and she isn't afraid of my hand without millet. She won't necessarily step up, but she'll put a foot on my finger and nibble/taste away at my finger which I find so cute.
Anyway, since we aren't exactly bonded as it is, and I don't spend more than an hour directly interacting with her every day (since there's not much to do other than feed her and just leave my hand in the cage)... is it cruel to leave her alone for such long periods of time? After and before work I will most certainly be in the same room as her, talking to her and such (since it's a one bedroom apartment - not many options!), but 8 hours each day seems like a lot to me...
I would love to get her more tame before getting a companion for her.
