Default The climbing "wall"

I was away for 10 days and just got back on Wednesday evening. I had a friend mind Jakob, so she was fine. Even though she did get some out-of-cage time, she barely chirped the entire time she was away. The only thing that would make her respond was my voice on the phone

Anyway, she was dropped over to my own place on the Tuesday evening so she was there when I got home, and goodness me was she excited! She's barely been in the cage since, and there hasn't been a quiet moment either

Anyway, after her bath this morning she flew over and sat on the screen door. She's always known it was there, and she's definitely checked it out before, but this time she landed!

After a few minutes of just sitting there trying to figure out what to do...

She climbed to the top

The most amusing part was actually trying to figure out how to get back down

I'm not sure how I really feel about her climbing on the screen door either. It's cute, but I really don't want her to start chewing on it

I think I would also discourage Jakob from landing and chewing on the screens. She could easily chew threw the screen if you are pre occupied with another task or for what ever reason.

It's definitely not a good idea to allow Jakob to chew on the metal of the screen door.

Aside from yhe possibility of escape if she chews through the screen, the metal may have zinc on it as a galvanizing agent to keep the screen from rusting and zinc is tosic to budgies and can lead to heavy metal poisoning.

I was honestly a bit concerned she might damage the mesh. The door can't be moved and is right beside her play area, so I new it was just a matter of time before she'd explore. Thankfully hasn't been difficult to teach her about other things she's not allowed to touch, so hopefully this won't be too hard either. Did look funny to see her climb all the way to the top, but after not knowing how to get down she might not try again

Cute! Smart to have a screen up so she doesn't fly into the glass

It IS pretty handy in that way, but it also prevents her from flying out when the door is open... or from bugs getting in I've had to move her away from the screen a few times today, but she'll eventually get the message and play with her toys
