ButtercupBumblebee will become famous soon enough
Default Is he really a she?

I posted this picture down in the introductions forum. Can anyone tell me what our new little one is? Someone here already said they thought it was a female, but the people at the bird store all said they thought it was a male

Edit: If another angle would help, I can take a picture tomorrow.

Default Hello

Nice to meet you. In my opinion, I think it's a she. Because I do see some white in the cere. From my experience raising budgies, baby females' cere tend to be less pink than males, then gradually whitens, before it browns to become a dark brown colour.

But this is just my opinion. Seeing that no one else have responded I thought I might be of help.

More experienced members will add in shortly.

Btw what a lovely budgie you have

Oh a fellow British Columbian, hello!

Thank you, I think she/he is very beautiful!

I've never been good at determining the genders of budgies, even though I've had them for nearly my whole life. I learned from here that different mutations can make it a lot harder to tell as well .

Thank you for your input!

I tend to agree your budgie looks like a hen , but if you can post some full frontal pictures without using a flash that would be better.

From that side pic, your budgie's cere is showing the typical colours of a young female (very light bluish mingled with white).
She's a beauty!

Yes, he really is a Female!

Although it's extremely difficult to see the cere in the picture you posted, I agree with the others that your new budgie is a little girl.

Posting a full frontal, clearly focused picture of the cere taken in natural light is best for accurately determining gender.
