Default new budgies

Hi all, Ive been away a long time, we lost eagle a couple of years ago but im now back as we are hoping to home two budgies. We belong to a charity that provides dog walkers which we do and on my registration form i said we could foster budgies, we have a cockatiel. The budgies we hope to give a forever home to are two boys sharing the same cage. We have been advised by our avian vet to keep the new budgies quarantined for 3 months in case they have anything that can be passed to our tiel or vice versa, we can manage this by keeping the new arrivals in our bedroom where they can look out of the window. Hubby is upstairs most of the time anyway and we will be letting them settle in and may let them fly round the bedroom or keep them caged until they move downstairs. They are both boys and are about one yearold. They have had a lot of moving about already poor little things but they are young so hopefully they will soon settle in. Any tips advice or thoughts will be most welcome

Welcome back to the forums! I am glad you are about get back to the ever exciting world of budgie ownership and will be giving a forever home to two budgie boys.
You can cover their cage on 3 sides with a light blanket or sheet in order to make them feel more at ease. In order to prevent night frights, you can also place a little night light near their cage.
As far as taming goes, it's best to take things slow for the first weeks, let the budgies settle and get to know them just by spending some time close to their cage and letting them get used to your voice. It's important to read their body language and to see when they begin to be more receptive to you, by showing curiosity and getting closer to you while still on the cage. When they start to show interest then it's time to go to the next level which should be teaching them to step up to your finger. You will have all the in depth info at the Training and Bonding section of the forums.

Good luck with everything and you are welcome to share some pics of the new arrivals once they are completely settled in!

Hi, and welcome back to the forum.

Take a look around at the stickies, site guidelines, etc. and if you have any questions, please be sure to ask.

It's great that you're going to be giving a safe and loving forever home to to needy little budgies.
We'll be looking forward to seeing pictures once you have them home and all settled in.
