Unhappy How do you show a budgie?

Hi all!
I am interested in becoming involved at budgie shows, but I never did this before and need a little bit of help and advice?
I was wondering if it is possible to show "pet type" budgies at budgie shows?I only have pet budgies!
How do you get involved with budgie showing? What do you need to show budgies? How do you prepare for a show? What is show condition?
How does it basically work at a show?

Please answer if you can!

Thank you!

Depends on where you live in the world. I only have basic knowledge of countries other than Australia.

In Australia pet type birds are not shown in Budgerigar Society shows, mainly because they usually don't have sealed rings on their legs and to show in Budgerigar Society Shows unless you want to show in Open Class they must have sealed rings provided by the Society of one of its Affiliates. And to buy those rings you must be a member. Some country Cage Bird shows it is possible to show pet birds as they may have a class for them or you can compete with breeders. Some Agricultural Shows have a pet bird class. But you must also have a regulation Show Cage.

With Budgie Societies they have breeders classes starting with Novice, Intermediate and Open. For a Novice to move up you have to win points. As I said you can show in Open Class with unrung birds but you would have absolutely no chance of even getting a place against experienced open breeders birds. They are extremely large birds in most instances.

These clubs have breeding standards.

If you are in Australia here is the link to the Budgerigar Society of New South Wales. There is contact information for the Society in other states there.

In the US pet type budgies are usually not shown like English budgies.
There are 2 English show budgie Societies : BAA and ABS. To show an English budgie or a new mutation that is usually closer to pet size budgies The birds must have closed leg bands showing the Society-BAA or ABS for example, the hatch year and initials that ID the owner as a member of one of the society. A lost banded budgie with a BAA or ABS band can be returned to the breeder by contacting the registered breeder. Like CFA for cats or AKC for dogs. Pet type budgies are non professional and can be shown in local pet shows at fairs or holiday celebrations usually for children. There is a lot of grooming and preparation as well as fees to be paid. Local clubs that are associated with the BAA or ABS put on shows where junior, novice , intermediate, champion exhibitors compete for points to be awarded for defeating other similar budgie on the Show bench. Currently, spots, Crown feather blow . size, color mutations, weight, etc. are the characteristic used to judge which birds are called best in Show and receive ribbons and plaques. This in turn helps indicate which breeders have the best birds and can charge the most money to purchase such birds It is considered a Hobby but a number of top breeders consider it a paying job.

The fun part is raising little pink budgie chicks, watching them grow into soft fuzzies and playing with them. there is also a lot of Hard work, feeding, cleaning cages and visiting the vet when a budgie becomes ill, and speculating which chick will grow into a champion best in show bird. In reality, there is no DNA/genetic difference between the pet or show type Budgie. they interbreed freely. The differences are created by breeding programs where certain characteristics are favored over others by breeders who show budgies.

Blessings,
Jo Ann .

The country you reside in has governing procedures with regard to showing budgies in your area.

This link will give you the information you require:
