Hey Y'all I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd post my new budgie.
We've been together for 3 days now any I've just spent time with him reading aloud and playing quiet music while I'm in the room by the cage. Ive read a bunch of the posts on here so I'm really just looking to make sure I'm doing everything good and for any extra advice. He's eating only the seeds out of his mix but I'm assuming thats because he was on just seeds prior. What fruit can I give him and how do I make egg for him?
Hi there! Your little budgie is beautiful, and from what I can see in the picture, it's a female.
You can give her some hard boiled egg, mashed with some cooked brown rice and peas. That will be a nutritious snack.
When I used to have budgies, they were never much into fruit, but they liked romaine lettuce, spinach, parsley, peas, cooked rice, whole grain bread, shredded carrots and such.
Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new budgie! Your little Kimball is a cutie!
You are doing very well so far. You can start by giving a little slice of apple or pear, apple happens to be my flock's favourite so you can give it a try. And you can place some veggies too. Budgies don't need that much fruit into their diet, due to the high sugar content, so you can offer some fruit once a week. Veggies you can offer daily or every other day, depending on their diet requirements.
You can get egg food at any specialized pet store or make your own by hard boiling an egg and mash it all up, you can sprinkle a few seeds just to get Kimball more curious and also mix some finely chopped up veggies to the mix.
As to your Kimball's gender, I'm not able to fully see the cere. From that photo I'm seeing a light purplish cere, so he can be a boy. A better photo showing the whole beak/cere area would help confirm it.
Best of luck with your new friend!
RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
Hello tonyb....welcome to talk budgies. Kimball is a very pretty bird, congrat's. The forum is loaded with great info on all thing's budgie. You can read the sticky's at the top of each sub forum, and of course ask as many question's as you'd like.
