Default 3 males now

Hi.. I have 5 budgies.. and ... recently discovered I have 3 males and 2 females.
I used to house Lemony and Ivy together. Now that Ivy is Ivan, I have moved Oscarlynn and Lemony together.. they are doing ok at this time.
That leaves me with the 3 boys. I redecorated the boy cage (My HQ Flight cage) and have had Ivan in that cage with Cody and PJ. It's ok, but I'm worried about one of them being left out... That appears to be Ivan at the moment, though he does perch with both Cody and PJ at times and they don't chase him out of food, etc.
I know the general rule... here's quoting Faerybee: Three in one cage doesn't usually work out well...
So.. My only other cage option at this moment is a smaller cage. Would I just be better off moving Ivan right now? Or.. can I see how it goes? They've been together for 3 full days now.. no major issues yet.
thanks

Judy,

You can always see how it goes and make a decision on whether to move Ivan into a cage of his own in a week or so. It may be that your three will be like Sunny, Shelby and Sparky were...

One usually got left out every day, but in their case it varied on which one that would be. Usually it was Sparky but sometimes it was Shelby. Sunny would buddy up with one of them each day and whichever budgie wasn't his first pick was the third wheel that day.

Or, maybe you'll get exceptionally lucky and your three will become the three budgiteers!

Hi Judy since I lost my sweet Haze I have got three and they do leave Budget out definitely. It is funny because when I took Blue to the vet for his operation Fifo teamed up with Budget ,but as soon as Blue came home Budget is on the outer once more.
I wouldn't have three if at all possible.

Judy, I would see how it goes for a few weeks and keep a spare cage for Ivan on hand just in case, as mentioned

Rico,
Budgies tend to separate into pairs even when there are more than three birds. For this reason it's better to have an even number of birds so that nobody gets "left out"
If you have a big enough cage, there's no problem housing more than two budgies
