Default Gender needed for breeding!

Hiya

We have two budgies that we were hoping to breed from (having had them as pets for two years) but we are not sure if we actually have a cock and a hen!

See photo below. We are pretty sure the yellow one at the back is a cock but we are less sure about the white one's gender. We would love to know what anybody thinks!

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Neill

Yes, you have your gender's correct...

We have a lot of great info here if you are considering having them breed...

Edit: After seeing Aluz post I looked at your pic again, and being pied that mottled cere does look like a male. I would go with what she said...

Hi there and welcome back to the forums!
You have 2 gorgeous male budgies there, no doubt whatsoever. Your whitish budgie is a double factor dominant pied budgie, that's why his cere has a patchy appearance and is part bluish part pinkish.
Knowing a budgie's gender is part of the basics when it comes to owning and caring for these pet birds. If you are thinking about breeding in the future, then a great deal of research needs to be done in order to ensure your budgies and chicks health and safety.
Be sure to check the detailed info at the Breeding section of the forums and good luck with everything!

Thanks for your assistance aluz, and thanks Jonah for temporarily getting our hopes up...

Guess we'll have to go on the hunt for a female then. I have experience breeding Gloster canaries and zebra finches but this will be my first attempt at budgies!

I agree with Aluz completely! Make sure to do sufficient research before breeding, even though you've bred birds before, you should know more about budgies and their breeding needs and habits If you end up getting some hens to pair up your boys in the future, don't forget to quarantine them to prevent the spread of illnesses to your boys. Keep us updated on what you decide!

They're beautiful!
