It's been a week since Misha came to our house and he and I are doing well, indeed. He started to eat from my hand, he now lets me to rub his chest and head, but still doesn't want to step into my finger but that is ok, I think.
Well, there is a problem. His cage is in our living room, and we are a crowded family. Plus, it's Ramadan and it means we stay awake nearly till 5-6 AM.
I don't know if he can sleep well, or not. The light is always on and we generally speak to each other, quietly. I, sometimes, cover the cage with a coat but I see that he is still awake.
We have a room that we don't use at all. There are some sofas and stuff. I can carry him to there every night but I'm afraid he will be uncomfortable with moving, every day.
I honestly don't know what to do. Can he sleep with lights on, or should I carry him to the empty room every night? (His cage is pretty big by the way)
He will definitely benefit from a settled and light free area to sleep. He will nap on and off during other times but he does need a quality sleep just as we humans do. Glad to hear all is going well keep working on step up .
Your little budgie needs around 12 hours sleep per night in a quiet and dark room - it is essential. Don't worry he will get used to the routine of moving every evening into his own bedroom and joining you again in the morning - and he will thank you for it.
It's also good to cover his cage at night to help him feel safe and cozy.
You've received good advice from the previous posters.
Moving your budgie's cage will become part of his routine and he will come to associate it with "bedtime". Or, if you choose to get him a "sleep cage" for the room you need to move him into, that will become associated with bedtime and he will welcome it. Covering the top and three sides of his cage as well as a portion of the front of the cage and ensuring he has a night light will help prevent night frights.
Thank you so much! The first day of moving went ok. He was a little confused at first, I think. But I'm sure he's having a real nice sleep right now. (It's 4am in here btw)
So I've got two more questions if you don't mind.
First, yeah, we have got a smaller cage. I kept that in case we need to take him to the vet immediately, so it's pretty suitable to be a sleep cage. But my question is that he doesn't even come to my finger and once I grabbed him he hated me for 2 days. How can I get him to the other cage? If I open its door and hold it against the others door, would he come out?
The other question is that my nephew has a budgie too and he went to another city for a week so he left his budgie to me. He has his own cage, they're both in the living room, seeing each other, sometimes chirping.
So tonight I carried him too. We don't have any other empty room so I had to carry him to the same room, too. What I'm wondering is will they wake up each other or disturb the other?
