Default Is Lemon really a "she"?

Hi,

I'm a new budgie owner and am hoping someone can tell me whether Lemon is really a female. According to the pet store, she's most likely a female, but because she's pied and young, it's hard to tell. Over the past 3 weeks, her cere has started to turn blue on the sides, but the middle is becoming a darker tan colour, so I'm stumped. From what I've read, her behaviour seems to be that of a female. Here are 3 pictures from different angles.

Also, if the pictures are any indication what type of mutation she is (I believe recessive pied, goldenface?), I'd be happy to hear also, but I'm planning on taking photos of her side and back and posting in the appropriate forum later.

Thanks!

I think it's a girl, especially since her cere is going dark!

She is definitely a gorgeous little female Blueish white on the cere means female, even though it may seem more like a male's cere. She is not recessive pied, as she has color on her upper chest. I think she is sky blue yellowface II dominant pied opaline greywing, but I can't be sure about the opaline greywing part until we see a shot of her wings.

Do you have any more pictures?

Your Lemon is definitely a young female!
She is a sky blue dominant pied budgie, I 'd say from those pics she's a yellow face type II rather than golden face.
If you post a pic of her back we can tell you more, if she's opaline or spangle for example.

EDIT: Oops, StarlingWings beat me to it in the mutations!

Thanks everyone! Here's a picture of her side and a bit of her back. She's the bird on the far left (with her new buddy Astro, who I will ask about in another post). Chip is the jealous onlooker on the right.

I'd say she is opaline too from that back photo. She does have quite an interesting combo and does not appear to have any markings on her wings.

Wow, what a stunning bird!

Opaline fullbody grewying maybe? I'm positive about the dominant pied sky blue yellowface II but the rest is harder.
Ana, what do you think?

I don't think she's full body greywing, I see no markings whatsoever on her wings. Maybe she's a clearwing?

I thought clearwing too, but wouldn't there be at least some markings from that, too? I know there's no body dilution on clearwing, but I also thought it looked a little similar to greywing. Is it possible that the pied is taking the markings out of most of her wings?

I see one spot on the right wing in that last picture that looks like it could be clearwing, greywing, etc.

Hi all,

I just found a photo that may solve the wing mystery. I hadn't noticed until now, but her left wing has several markings, whereas her right wing is mainly clear. Here's a photo of her left side (Sorry it's dark and a little blurry, but it's the only one I could find of her left side at the moment). I hope this helps!
