I truly think for Sheik's health and well-being, getting him a mature male permanent budgie friend is your best option.

You indicated in your initial post in this thread:
"This post was both to share my first hand experience with the big mistake of getting an unweaned chick from the nest box and to see if the more experienced members can help me with 7-month-old Sheik."

You have experienced and knowledgable members giving you excellent advice at this time, but again seem unwilling to follow it.

Sheik is not a well-adjusted budgie.
Unfortunately the poor little fellow is going to have on-going emotional problems unless you take action now to change that.
At 7 months old, Sheik is still young enough to benefit from having a full-time mature male budgie buddy.
In addition to the benefit of learning to be a budgie, Sheik will (hopefully) lose some of his unnatural over-attachment toward you.

In my opinion, to be a mature and responsible pet-owner sometimes means making sacrifices of what you "want" in order to do what is best for the animal's health and well-being.

I'm sorry if you think this is harsh.
I believe it's time you face the fact that Sheik's current problems are a result of your earlier decisions and if you don't make good choices now things will only get worse over time.

Please think carefully about what is best for Sheik and act accordingly.

We've been talking about it and it has been a tough decision. But right now we're more inclined to getting the new bird.

The other budgie has been with my friend for about a month. It is a single bird. His mate died of having a long untrimmed beak. Will it need to be quarantined or is the month it has spent with my friend enough.

That is very sad to hear that the budgies mate died from an over long beak! It would of virtually starved to death why didn't the owner take it to be looked at?
Any new budgie needs to be quarantined.

The owner was irresponsible. He even left the 2 budgies with my friend and hasn't even called to take them back.

Bernard I think this little budgie is being sent into your life for a reason, for your sweet Sheik as well as his health an safety.

Hi, Bernard --

Have you decided to take the budgie permanently at this point in time? It sounds as if the poor little fellow definitely needs a safe and loving home where it will receive the care and attention it so desperately deserves.

I hope you will be able to open your heart and home to the little guy and that having him will give Sheik the companionship and "budgie-guidance" he needs.

Please let us know how things are progressing.
We'd also love to see some pictures if you have any you'd like to share!

After being offered the bird by the person who was taking care of it while the owner was away. Apparently the owner had not called to take the bird back. I really thought this was a blessing in disguise as the owner is irresponsible and I think that both these guys needed each other.
Unfortunately, the owner picked it up two days ago. It was really sad. To think that he had initially left 2 budgies and picked up one and didn't care less about the death and starvation of the other.

I'm sorry you weren't able to adopt that budgie... I hope you will be able to get your Sheik a new friend soon.

I would look for an older adult male as a friend for Sheik at this point in time. Remember you'll need to quarantine and the sooner you can get another bird, the sooner you can introduce it to Sheik. Sheik definitely needs the socialization another older male will provide.
