Default What is my budgie doing to his food when I'm not watching?

I keep filling my feeder up, it's one of the external ones that you fill from the outside and by the end of the day it's all on the floor the seeds unopened. Can anyone explain this?

Is it one of those feeders shaped like a tube?
Most likely your budgie is purposely throwing the seeds onto the floor.

Yeah it is, I had a feeling but was afraid of that!! Any advice to get him to stop? Why would he be doing it?

I actually find it odd that your budgie would do that with that type of feeder.
If the feeder is in proper working order (as in not consistently leaking seed), then your budgie must be really taking all the seed out.

I have had this happen with my budgie chicks, but they would do so in order to nest on the food containers. I have also had the odd juvenile budgie to purposely pick the seed out and emptying the container and they would do so purely out of mischief. This is usually a phase though, but what I would do is place the food into a container with a top on where only their heads would only fit in order to minimize the wasted food issue.

Maybe it is abit of mischief, they do like to play up sometimes. They don't usually with me but other people they like to take advantage of!
Thanks for the tip I'll try that!

You're welcome! I also call it playful mischief, maybe if you place a new toy on the cage your budgie will get curious, start playing with it and forget about emptying his feeder.
