Default New addition and need new home

Well hello Everyone!
After much thought I decided to get Oz a companion today and I think I will invest in another bigger home for them so there is more room. The picture is the current home and a stock photo shows it clearly as to the size.

Their current home measures 18 wide 18 deep and 24 tall. I got "Charlie" to help Oz from being so bored It may have worked? too soon to tell however, they do seem to get along ( for the most part) it was sad at first but a priceless look when Charlie took Ozzies favorite seat Oz looked like what the heck.... but I think they will get along

I will watch them very closely!!

I hope this solves the boredom that Oz had to have as she sat most of the day in one place. I really think Charlie will be a good influence on Ozzie..

All I know about Charlie was her owner passed away and she was at the pet store on consignment for 2 days only He/she was in a 12x12x15 cage alone with a mirror and toys that she / clearly loves!!
I was told he or she is about 8 to 12 months old

Thanks everyone for always trying to be so helpful!!!!

Edit: OK, now that you've changed the attachments I can open them.
Yes, Charlie is a female.

What happened to quarantine and then introducing the two birds in neutral territory?

Default Charlie

here for you is some pictures of Charlie I hope you can see it?? I brought Charlie home about 1 pm today and spent all day with the 2 of them and did not leave them alone. and really they got along fairly well accept for a couple of times that Charlie got pushy but all in all they seem to get along and both eating well........

They did not go in the same cage until about 430

I have health check paperwork from the pet store I got Charlie from, this pet store requires it.They wont take any consignment birds without verified health check.

YIKES!!!! I had no idea !!

In my haste and lack of experience with more than 1 bird I did what I thought was ok to do..

but wow... quarantine!! I sure missed that step!!

all of Charlie's toys mirror ect.. were disinfected well before I placed them in the home she shares with Oz...... I used vinegar and baking soda and let them dry in the sun and rinsed them very well!!!

But wow I really missed a step !! quarantine...

That is why it is important to take the time to read the information in the links I provide when members join the forum.

I hope Charlie isn't harboring any illnesses that she can pass on to Oz.

BOY DO I FEEL STUPID

I think I thought that having that paperwork the pet store gave me from the vet showing good health with Charlie caused me to rush it a bit... I did however watch them all evening and little if any issues.

I think Oz doesn't know what to make of Charlie yet....
Charlie only got a little pushy and ran Oz away from a perch a couple of times but no "fighting" at least so far......... And Charlie was so active she swings on the swing and chews on the toys looks in his mirror and Oz just watches..

Charlie is what I would have expected a Budgie to do you know, play with toys and swing on a swing, and move around and even bang her head on a mirror YUP!! Charlie likes that Mirror !! In the few hours of watching them Charlie did all those things and Oz just watched. Charlie seems ""happy" while Oz just sits in the same place like a lump of coal ...

I hope they bond. I also hope that now I will see 2 seemingly happy budgies.......

I wanted to also ask you do you know what mutation Charlie might be??

I thank you for the advice even though I mis stepped. on QUARANTINE >>>>>

Congratulations on adopting Charlie, I'm glad she is settling in well and already is on a playful mood!

Your Charlie is a beautiful light green greywing budgie. I have two boys with the exact same colours of your Charlie.

It's nice that Charlie is playful and active already.
I hope Oz decides that what Charlie is doing looks like fun and she decides to join in the games in time.

Have you decided on what cage you might be getting for the two of them?

Deborah, I sure did! I got them a nice BIG new home with alot of goodies!! swings, toys and bells various size perches, fruit bowls, treats and another rope perch and they love it!!!

This is a very good size cage and I love the door as it is HUGE and I can get in there with ease!! and after about 2 hours of setting it up they both were so curious!!

I can see where Charlie will be a help to Oz to be more curious!! a couple of neat things happened one was when I was setting up the new place and got to the point of moving them to the new home I took Charlie first and when I did that Oz ventured to the door and stood on the doors edge SHE NEVER WOULD EVER GO NEAR THE DOOR I was stunned!!! I think Oz wanted to know where Charlie went, and when I put Oz in the new home they both were so curious tilting their heads looking around ect... and about a hour later they settled in together and Charlie was preening Ozzies head and side of her head and Oz made little noises!!

So I think I was right that Oz needed a friend and as I type this and glance at them they are sleeping side by side............ I feel so much better!!

Not only do they now have a huge place to call home but they also seem to be becoming friends...... I am so happy to see this it makes me way less worried about Oz. and oh , Charlie was whacking away at his new ball and bell just loving it!!! and checking out her swing she is seemingly happy.

Oz was looking on and I bet one day Oz will loosen up as she already shows signs of liking her companion!!

I just hope this is the beginning of a much better life for Oz and Charlie too!!!

I got them the offset roof as it looks much taller and the new home measures 23"w x 19"d x 27"tall Thanks very much for asking how things went!!! below is the link to the new home they now have!!!

Hi, Mark --

I actually had a cage just like that at one time. Good choice!

I'd love to see a picture of your cage all set up with Oz and Charlie enjoying it if you get a chance to share one.

I'm so glad that Oz and Charlie are doing well together.
It really sounds like they are going to be the best of friends and have a great life now.
