My budgies tail feathers are different?
1 Attachment(s)
My budgie's tail feathers look so wierd. I'm worried because the other budgies I see don't have this. His tail feathers are sticking out in 3 directions.
Here's a pic: :budgie:

No, it's not a bad thing and there is no reason for you to worry about it, your budgie is perfectly fine.
This happens sometimes when they are preening their tail feathers and when they are moulting and in the process of growing the new tail feathers. :)
They can also get their tail feathers a bit dishevelled during some vigorous playing.

Perfectly normal, budgies do all sorts of funny things . Molting, rubbing up against something, preening and if they get a fright their tail feathers can sometimes fall out
Your budgie's tai will settle again soon.

The remedy for this is to take a tall slender glass jar like used for olives. Fill with boiling hot water. Gently restrain budgie and or wrap in a cloth or paper towel.
Carefully dip long tail or wing feathers in the hot water without getting feet or other body areas wet. remove quickly and run a paper towel down the tail such that the feathers are all together in normal position. If tail is still a bit off do it once more. The feathers are dead so no pain for the bird the feather shafts can be manipulated back to proper position. The same is true of the long wing feathers. If body feathers are messy this can indicate the bird does not fell well enough to preen or is molting or baby antics that will disappear after baby molt.
Babies are notorious for pulling and breaking other birds feathers. For ruffled body feathers mist bird several days in a row Which will convince a healthy bird to preen till feathers are in order. Many breeders use this method at shows when budgies mess up their feathers just before they are to go before judge on the bench. Best wishes, Jo Ann
