These two are siblings. Just got em today!! Super excited. Only a few weeks old. Anyone know what gender they are? Also, what should I name them!?

Also, what is mutation?

Hi and to Talk Budgies!

Your new budgies are adorable!!
Were your pictures taken with a flash? They appear to be and flash washes out the color of the budgies' ceres making it difficult to accurately determine gender.

Clear, in-focus pictures taken in natural light are best.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Your two budgies are precious! Congratulations on your new friends. I agree with FaeryBee that close up, no flash pictures would be better, but from what I can see, both of them look to be gorgeous little boys.

To me, the first names I thought of were Sinbad and Seafoam, or Keel and Kipper, or Hinto and Zeru (both mean "blue" in different languages).

Also, Edgar and Chester are some good gentlemanly names, or Kaito ("ocean flight" in Japanese) and Kovar (a type of silvery metal).

They are gorgeous! For more ideas, feel free to check out this link: https://talkbudgies.com/new-budgie-ar...e-budgies.html

Hope to see more of your little ones! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the response and the links!

Not sure if it was flash, and I only have a camera phone... But I took some more pics and put them in the photo bucket... My unnamed little babies didn't seem to want to pose for me though... I know they are "a few weeks old." Does anyone have a better idea than that?

Also, I've never had such young birds before. I currently have two adult parakeets, and I am keeping them in separate cages, but other than that, any tips?

Thank you in advance for everybody's thoughts!!

I believe you have two beautiful little boys!

They are very young - My guess they are about 10 weeks old but we'll see what our expert budgie breeders have to say.

You should quarantine the new bird(s) for 4-6 weeks.
Quarantine means housing your new bird in a different cage in a different room as far away as possible from the room your current bird(s) is in for a period of 4-6 weeks.

Budgies mask symptoms when they are ill. Symptoms may not show up for over two weeks. Often you will not even realize your bird is not well. Many budgie illnesses are airborne which is why you need to quarantine your new bird in a completely different room.

I would recommend removing the rope toy with the fringe from the cage and only allow them to play with it during out-of-cage time under supervision.
Ingestion of cotton fibers (which can happen with rope toys and/or perches) can lead to impaction of the crop.

Default Yay!

Yay! I was hoping they were boys!! My other two are boys as well. So 4 boys in total! (I really don't want to deal with the breeding issue! Especially since these two are siblings.)

Oh thank you for all those thoughts too! It makes me sad that I have to put them in separate rooms! They seem to enjoy tweeting to each other! But I will...

Also, I would have never thought about the toy. The former owners game them to me today in that cage with the toys and everything already in it. I'm going to get them a bigger cage too. I just didn't know I would be adopting them today - it was a bit of a surprise!

Default Awesome Cage

That is an AWESOME cage! But I don't think hubby will let me spend quite that much on them yet...

(By the way, your link actually says the cage is $149.99 now.)
