Default Storing Seed

Wondering if keeping bird seed in large tupperware container is good for large quantity of seed. Or is it best kept in its own bag. Might buy 50 lbs. Not sure if it would spoil or lose freshness. I would keep it out of sun, cool, dry basement. Looking to use over a few months.

If you are going to store your seed it is definitely advisable to have it in vermin proof containers. I store my seed/pellets and crumbles mixes all in stainless steel bins with tight fitting lids.
If you only have a couple of budgies I wouldn't buy a huge quantity as it does go stale.

for that much seed, freeze it (unless you have like a huge flock and get through the seed in a few month)

I know of horse people who use old, no longer functioning freezer chests as feed bins, because they are metal and rodent proof, as tupperware isn't.

I buy small bags that last my birds a rather long time, and after tossing it in the freezer for a few days (depending on my memory), then I put it in a plastic pitcher with lid.
