I bought some natural raffia at the dollar store, intending to make bird toys with it. When I contacted the company, they said that it had gone through a fumigation process with a small amount of methyl bromide.
:S I'm assuming that this product would not be safe for my budgies? They like to chew on everything.
A product that has been treated with methyl bromide is not safe for your budgies.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping that it would be something that could be aired out.
:) Well, I guess I could practice with it and toss it out once I get some bird safe twine.
A dollar certainly isn't a large loss and your budgie's safety and well-being is worth much more than that! ;)
I'm so glad you took the time to contact the company to determine if the raffia had been treated with any chemicals before using it. You are taking good care of your little ones! Well done.
