Default Budgie advice

Hi all just joined up to this website for abit of advice. I recently picked up a budgie off a website in Australia called gumtree went over and picked her up off her owner she didn't look to well looked after, and on the way back home I noticed she was missing a foot it was just a stump and on the other foot she had a claw missing she's having trouble holding onto things she just waddles along the bottom of her cage and occasionally hangs on to side of cage with her beak, she doesn't look in pain but I am getting her checked out tomorrow. For now I was thinking I got a long 1 story ferret cage I was gonna clean that out and pad the bottom with soft stuff and put her water and seed on the bottom with her she can still fly around and chirps like a happy birdy she just has trouble holding on is that a good idea? Or is there something else I can do for her.thank you in advance.

Welcome to talk budgies. Sound's like you have become the owner of a little budgie with some special need's. It is great that you are taking her for a checkup, which is alway's a good idea. By your description, and looking at the pic's it seem's her injuries aren't new and she has learned to cope with it. I don't know about the cage you refer to, but whatever cage you use, keeping everything down low, perches, food, water, and toy's sound's like a good idea.

I would experiment with different size perches, forked branch perches, corner shelves, etc. A ladder mounted down low in a horizontal position might prove to be a desirable perch for her too. I am sure other's will be along with helpful tip's and maybe related experiences. Would love to see more pics of her, and hear what the vet say's...

Oh the poor little darling why did they not explain her injuries to you. What sort of history were you provided with? I'm really glad you are able to give her a chance. I e no idea what a ferret cage looks like but I imagine it's ground based. Please make sure your little budgie is up high off the ground because they feel safer that way.

Welcome to the forums!
I'm glad you have adopted this special needs budgie. Judging by the pics it must be extremely difficult, if not impossible for her to perch, she is also missing part of her toes on her "best" foot...
I have had a few budgies with foot disabilities over the years and the most serious condition I have seen with mine was one foot that was not fully developed and the toes on that foot were always clenched like a fist. The other foot was normal.
You do well in padding the bottom of the cage and since she likes to climb, you can adapt and custom made some platforms for her that will serve as perches. These platforms would be made out of wood and flattened out for her to be able to rest her body on them.

I'm wishing you the very best of luck with your budgie girl, it's great that she is chirping happily and enjoying life now under your care.

@jonah thank you for ur advice I will try out the things you said And I will post here what the vet says.
@niamhf they didn't tell me anything they just handed her to me in a tiny rusty cage that didn't look like its bin cleaned in months with no water I don't think they even bothered about her. I'm gonna just go buy her a new cage and everything tomorrow, i got her as comfy as possible for tonight with some bird noises off YouTube that she's chirping back to
@aluz I appreciate the tips and thank you I'm gonna try my best to give her a happier little life

As the others all have said, I am so glad you got a hold of this budgie. I would put in a few flat shelves/perches for her to sit or stand on. Show her the love he deserves and show her people are good and let her have a great happy rest of her life.

And karma to you for rescuing this little friend .
