So mango my 3 month old budgie boy is getting very good at getting on and off my finger which is good considering I've only had him about 2 months but the only problem is when he's on my finger he nibble at my skin all the time. Most of the time it doesn't hurt but sometimes he does make me bleed, it's not biting just like nibbling. Any idea on what this is or what to do?
My boys Joe Blueberry and Mango
Hi, my budgies always nibble on my finger and skin. I think they do that because they think it's fun (my budgies nibble on everything they see). If it makes you bleed maybe just move your finger away when your budgie tries to nibble it. My budgie Sunny used to bite my finger hard (playing, not trying to hurt me). So I used to move my finger away and he got the message. Now he is more gentle.
Hi Jack, nibbling can be a sign of affection, as in your bird preening you, playing with you. They also will nibble out of curiosity. Anytime a bird draws blood, it is biting, and needs to be addressed. Check out this most excellent information when you get a chance and try to figure how it applies to your situation...
