Default Sex and Age

Hello!

So I am pretty positive my older Budgie is a male, but just to be sure I'm posting pictures of both!

The older one (dark blue) has lost his head bands and his eyes possibly have some grey around them? (I really thought they did but now I'm not sure if its his eye or eyelid!) He is currently molting though, I can see lose feathers on his head so maybe the lack of head stripes is a recent development? I'm pretty sure he is male but I want to get an estimate on his age.

The younger one (light blue) still has all his/her head bands and solid black eyes. I originally thought he was a guy because his cere seems purple to me and he is very vocal and has many behavior patterns of a guy. Now though....after looking at some of the other pictures on this forum I think he is a she!

I'd appreciate age/sex info on both of them!

Thanks

I agree the darker bird is a male. He has gone through his first molt. I can't see irises but if you are starting to see light grey ones, then he could be anywhere from 4-9 month's of age. Your dominant pied also look's like a male to me and appears to be pin feathered on the head from first molt which should be 12-15 week's of age. Very pretty bird's...

Disclaimer: I am no expert so I could be wrong....let's wait and see what some of our more expert folk's say...

I agree with Randy with regard to the gender and estimated age of both budgies.

Thank you both! I would have loved them either way but I'm glad to know they are both male. Baby budgies are cute and all but I think two is enough for now!

The pied looks to be a young hen under 6 months. Cere looks very
chalky bluish, not pinky/purple. I'd check with aluz who's very good with this.

Thanks for the input. Is there a way to tag people on here so that aluz knows to look at this thread?

I don't know, but you could find out by contacting a staff member.
Go to Forum Home, then to Contact Staff and then to thread and
enter information for new topic. This supposedly only goes to staff and
person who submitted the topic.

I'm here now and I agree with Phil, the violet dominant pied budgie also looks very much like a young female to me.
As to the male, I noticed he still has a couple of baby throat spots making me believe is about 6 months old. Some budgies will lose the baby throat spots and grow the bigger (adult ones) on their second moult at around 6 - 7months old.

The female looks much younger at about 3 and a half months old.
