Hello all, I will be getting a budgie in a couple of weeks and I have asked for a male, the breeder sent me pictures but he is not 100% sure, and neither am I despite all my research I would be forever greatful to receive the opinion of someone with experience
Hope the file attaches, my baby is the blue one, he doesn't appear to have a white ring around his nostrils but the cere is very light, I'm guessing the baby is about 5 weeks
Welcome to the forums and the soon-to-be ever exciting world of budgie ownership!
Just from that one photo, I'm seeing a very pale colour on the cere and I'm not seeing the translucent see through quality present in young budgie boys, so I'm leaning towards girl.
More pictures taken in better lighting and more close up would help confirm it.
Since the chick is so young, the cere will go through a few changes as time goes by and in a week or two it could be much easier to tell from a photo.
RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
This is the only other picture I have, although it's not very good you can see his cere closer, if you compare it to the green budgie behind it does look pinker, and (my potential little buddy)'s beak is a much lighter colour...
If the photos were taken with flash, that can wash out the color of the cere making it extremely difficult to tell the budgie's gender.
Could you ask the breeder to send you a picture taken close-up in natural light? From the pictures's you've posted, the budgie appears to be female.

I agree with the assessment of gender. Although it's possible that dim light or flash is washing out the colour of their ceres, going on the colour of them in the pictures both (?) look like girls. Of course, there's no way to tell for sure without closer, clearer pictures of their ceres.
Feel free to ask any more questions along the way as we'd be more than happy to help.
I hope you find your new budgie soon! It's great you've been doing your research
