Default destroying Iodine block

Hi, we've had our budgie about 4 years but she was already an adult when we got her. There's always an Iodine / Mineral block and cuttlefish in her cage and other then having a nibbles at each everything has seemed fine but just lately she has gone through 3 Iodine blocks I don't mean eating them. All she does is peck and peck until there's just a pink heap of powder on the cage floor. Does anyone have any idea why she's started doing this?
thanks

She sounds like a female in breeding condition They like to chew everything to pieces. Give her some fresh branches from safe trees and let her chew on those instead. Hold back with the iodine block for a while, until she learns to chew the wood instead.

Hi and welcome

Sometimes females do that in stress/tension means something is not according to her

Hi and to Talk Budgies!

Is your hen currently in condition? It does sound like something females do when they are in breeding mode. I would suggest giving her some shredding toys as well as natural wood toys to destroy. You might also put a nice peice of carrot in her cage. As she shreds it she'll be getting some good nutrition at the same time.

To familiarize yourself with the forums, please take the time to read through all of the How To Guides, the FAQs and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.
You'll find most of your basic questions are answered after you've read through all of them.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about your budgie and hopefully seeing some pictures soon!!

Hi.. I have a hen that did this with her cuttlebone.. I mean, she literally went through a new one every day forever. She loves to shred other things, like kabobs and carrots, too.. but I've never seen her do that with her cuttlebone before. It turned out she WAS in condition and I didn't realize it. She hasn't done it since, thank goodness. I think just making sure she has chewing options is a great idea (as suggested above).
