I just purchased a new yellow and green budgie from the pet store. I named him Lemon, he had both if his wings clipped (I think this is what's causing the behavior) when I got him. I've had him for almost two weeks now and he is already perching on my hand, taking treats, and sitting on my shoulder, but when I go into my room with him, I have these blinds over the windows he likes to climb. All he ever wants to do is get to the top of the blinds and just sit there. He never jumps, just sits there. The blinds almost touch the roof at the top so I'm thinking he may like it up there because it is as high as he can get, because he can't fly. He also doesn't chirp, but I think thats just because he is still fairly new. I keep him on a diet of pellets and seed and give him fruit a lot too. So if anyone knows why he is doing this please tell me, thanks.
And please forgive me, my grammer and punctuation skills aren't the greatest.
Welcome to talk budgies...
I think you nailed it, he is going up to the highest point he can. He is still very new and not yet secure. Perching on your finger is not alway's a sign of them getting comfortable, especially if they have clipped wing's. Keep being patient and working with him, but even when he is completely tame, and bonded well with you, he is going to still want to go up there. Check out some of the sticky's in our training and bonding section. Would love to see some pic's...
He came down from Heaven unto this earth below
He came down from glory and praises untold
He came down to man fashioned in their way
He came down to rescue, He came down to save
Randy's given you excellent advice.

Hi.. Your little Lemon is darling!! Good luck with your training. One of the most important things I've learned here on the forum is to be patient... I found that budgies aren't like the dogs and horses I've known all my life. These little guys do things their own way in their own time. It took mine nearly a year to consent to eating some pellets and veggies! Sheesh... they can be challenging.. but it's worth it and they are very fun. Who knew birds could have such great personalities?
Lemon is a very handsome little boy I agree completely with Randy, and Deb has given great resources for you to look at.
It's awesome to have you on the forums with us and I hope to see a lot more of your handsome little guy in the future!
Feel free to ask about anything you're unsure of as we'd be more than happy to help!
