Default Safe wood?

Okay, so I was just wondering if Ash wood is entirely safe for budgies?
My back garden is pretty much lined with the trees, and the time's coming to where I'll have to trim back a few branches, and I thought "Oh? If they're safe, I could make a perch for Alistair!"

Hooowever, my dad's making me a touch paranoid by saying 'but it's from outside, you put one in Daesyl's cage and she died, you're better off buying one' and so on.
Other places say that taking ash branches is totally fine!
(Obviously I'll clean/disinfect/bake the branches)

There's also woodland right next to where I live, too, and I know it has things such as birch and willow, which I've also heard can be safe?

I wanted to run it past everyone here to see if it's definitely all right!

(Also, a fun little side-thing, my boyfriend said he has a LOT of balsa wood, but nothing to do with it so he's offered to have a day of budgie toy-making if that's safe, too!)

I've been going by this post to see what kinds of wood are ok or not.

That's awesome that your boyfriend wants to help make budgie toys, just make sure it's untreated balsa wood.
