Default How do I bond with my newly purchased budgie

I just purchased my budgie Lemon about two weeks ago with both wings clipped. I was wondering how to bond with him. If you've read my other thread, this is the same budgie who likes to be on top of the blinds.

Start off by talking to him softly, reading, or something similar to him a few minutes a day. Usually you shouldn't try and touch him for the first 2 weeks to give him some space to settle in.

You can sit by him and do your daily work or hobby so he gets to know you After about two weeks, you can put your hand in the cage and leave it there without moving for a few minutes. Do this a couple times a day until he's comfortable, and then you can slowly move your hand towards him. When it's close enough that he seems to be getting nervous, slowly remove your hand and tell him what a good boy he is.

As soon as he lets you get semi-close to him, you can try hand feeding him millet.
Just make sure to go at his pace and you and Lemon will surely form a lasting and trusting bond

Starling has given you good advice. As I mentioned in your other thread, new bird's, especially wing clipped ones will be submissive and step up even when they really don't want to and still have fear. Since you have had him a couple week's already, I would concentrate on looking for sign's that he is accepting on his own rather than complying. Open the cage door and see if he comes to you. Feed him millet by the open door, ask him to step up, and allow him to decide if he want's to. There is a lot of good info over in the training and bonding section, have at some of it when you get the chance, it will help you and your new buddy out immensely...

Default Thanks Randy

I have been working with him a little but since I got him and I don't force him to step up if he doesn't want to. But usually when I do say step up, he does, as long as he's not on the blinds or on his swing. I was also wondering if he will be happy while training and stuff of that sort when he gets his wings back, and when usually do they grow back?

Sound's like he is going to be an easy one to tame and bond with. He will still like spending time with you when his wings grow back. Single budgies can get very strong bond's with their people. His flight feathers will grow back in during his first molt, which is usually between 12-14 week's of age...
