Default Why?

My parakeet Greenbird has recently started kicking the seed/pellets out of the food dishes and it's all over the place. None of the other birds do this. I've had her for over 5 years and she never did this before. Why now and is there a way to stop this behavior?

Thanks
Nancy

Sorry to hear that. I have no idea what may be causing it, but it is a common occurence. I would get a hooded/covered feeder for her....

Is Green bird in condition? Some hens do this when they are in condition, I would agree with Randy try another sort of feed holder. Also make sure she has access to a lot of shredding toys .

I was thinking the same thing as Cathy. My father's budgie used to try to nest sometimes in her food dish and did this all the time.

I have a Bourkes parakeet that does this. And she eats $14 a kg food! Drives me nuts! I did start grinding her pellets up - she wastes less that way.

Hmm she could be in condition as her cere is very brown. She also has gone bonkers with the kabob toy - shredding it to no end. Thanks for the info. I'll try to find a covered seed dish, but these guys are so weird about their food dishes. In the past when I have changed food dishes they won't go near the new one. Go figure.

I recently just became much stricter with myself about controlling my budgies' light hours. I have 3 hens and one used to do this really bad. I left them in the care of a friend while I was on vacation and filled up 6 food dishes. When I came back a week later, it was all over the cage floor lol. So much food wasted

That same budgie recently laid an egg and I was worried about complications like egg binding, so I changed up their cage entirely and stuck to 8-10 hours of light a day. So far Blue has not laid another egg besides that first one, and she has entirely stopped trying to burrow under the cage covers and doesn't throw anymore food out of her dishes.

Huzzah! We're all saved lol
Especially my wallet
