Frieghtened at night
So this time of year we are prone to a few in house bats. Harmless, but at night kinda scary as they fly fast. Any who peepers and Owen are now jumpy. They need a night light. If its totally dark they freak. If there's a light they dont seem to rest well. Covering up whole cage is not an option, as this really freaks them out. I am covering three sides. This seems semi OK. However, I find them in odd spots in the cage at night crying/whimpering for me. (It's sad. It's not a loud chirp). I can not take their cage to our room at night. They are getting cranky in day due to lack of proper sleep. I don't know what to try next. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Can you move them to a different room where the "bat activity" will be less noticeable?
Your budgies should be able to sleep even with a little night light on. The light doesn't need to be very close to the cage nor directly aimed at them. As long as they are able to see a more lit up area on the room they are in, that should keep them from having constant night frights.

Mine even start to sleep for the night when I have the lights dimmed to a minimum.

How are the bats getting into your house?
I would be concerned about bats in your home not only for your budgies' welfare but also for that of you and your children.

Bat guano harbors bacteria that can cause disease for both you and your budgies. Please see the link below:

Not sure how they get in. They can squeeze threw paper thin spaces. We live in the center of 3 churches. Each a block away.(old style. Huge on bats) We have done bat houses, traps, sound thingys. It's usually only 4 months of the year anyways. The house is set up there is not really any doors. So all places connect with high ceilings. So no bat free zone. (I hate bats. I am ok with them by day. I understand they are good. But my birds argee they are scary at night. They fly fast and alot.)

Could the cage be rolled into a bathroom at night perhaps? :S
