Default An update

Hello everyone.

Just wanted to drop a little update since it's been, what, maybe a month since my last one? Don't remember.

Sooo...Starly (f) and Shell (m) are doing well. I think Starly has began molting.....she has a yellow patch on her "forehead" now. And there are feathers everywhere. lol I was worried at first because I wasn't sure what was going on. I've read that molting can also happen due to stress, anxiety, illness, etc....but she's way too energetic to be sick. She's also somewhat irritable. Starly and Shell have gotten into two short quarrels. I'm keepin' an eye on them both.

They're still pretty frightened of me and anything new. They hate being outside their cage....I open it and give them space, but they never step out. They're also still picky eaters. They only eat pellets, corn, lettuce and kale. Everything else scares them. I'm trying though. And being super patient.

Now the big one....

What is the probability of finding a baby budgie in your backyard?

Pretty darn low, right?

Well....I found a baby budgie in my backyard. Actually, my brother did. I was inside when he told me there's a bird that looks like my budgies outside. I didn't believe him but when I went outside and saw little Jake (yes, I already named him...couldn't help myself) laying in the dirt...my jaw dropped to the floor. He was looking for food...I thought he was injured at first because he wouldn't fly away. I took him in and gave him food and water. This little guy ate for, like, 10 or 15 minutes straight. He was starving. Then he fell asleep right next to the food bowl.

I'm worried though. I need to take him to the vet. He's sleeping a lot. He's REALLY young so it may be due to that.....I would guess he's a few weeks old.

Starly and Shell are really excited to see another budgie around. They cling to the cage and stare at him. lol Jake doesn't pay much attention to them, however.

Another thing I wanna know is if somebody let this little guy out or if he escaped. Should I maybe ask around? What I do know is that my brother saved this little guy's life 'cause if he hadn't noticed Jake, then he would be cat food. Lots of cats around where I live.

I'd like to show you guys some pictures of my babies but I don't know how to put any up.

Thanks for reading. I hope everyone is doing well.

Aww, poor baby Jake!

Sounds like a trip to the vets is a great idea. He could he exhausted if he's been flying a lot. If he escaped and got frightened he could have been flying for a while.
And with regards to him escaping you could post around to pages like Facebook etc. to see if anyone has lost a budgie.

As for the pictures, you need to upload them somewhere else and use a link. I think a lot of people use photobucket which if free to join (I post pictures of Jimmy on tumblr, so I just use that). Then you use the 'insert image' icon above the message box and post in the URL. Hope that helps.

It's good to hear about Shell and Starly! Moulting bickering is normal, and I'm glad you're patient. That really is a virtue when you're a budgie mum!

Also, I'm happy to hear you were able to rescue little Jake. I hope he's okay! I would definitely check local ads, shelters, and vets to see if anyone claims him.

Therm has given good advice as well, I agree with the posting picture method too

Great job on rescuing little Jake!
Karma coming your way for taking good care of the little fellow.
Taking him in to the vet for a check-up is a very good idea.

You can notify the local animal shelters and veterinarians in your area that you've found a budgie. I would also suggest that rather than describing him, ask that whomever contacts you about him describe him to you.

It sounds as though Starly and Shell are doing well and I agree with Star that molting sometimes makes budgies more irritable.

Obviously you're a great Budgie Dad.

If you open a free PhotoBucket account, you can follow the instructions in this to upload pictures:
