Traumatized bird
I've had my bird Bibi for about 2 weeks and the cage I had, I realized, was too small and not able to be cleaned properly. It was an "antique" and in hindsight I should've thought about how inconvenient it would be. So I bought a much larger and newer cage and I tried to move Bibi in, and I was able to after she flew around and I had to catch her multiple times! I'm so so scared because she hit some walls and I had to hold her to get her in the cage. Now that she's in there, she's grabbed on to the side of the cage and is just looking at me:(. I had built up some trust with her over the two weeks that I've had her, but I feel as if all of that has just gone out the window. I just want to know if she's going to be okay and how I can regain her trust.

1. Deep breath
2. I feel even though it was a traumatic experience for you both that you will survive this event.
3. You may have done a few steps backward in trust; but in the big picture you have made a huge step forward, in the aspect of good care for your feathered friend. Old, rusty, antique cages can be very unhealthy/unsafe for your bird.
4. Give it some time and I'm sure she will settle in to her new cage.
5. Again give her time and eventually in baby steps you can and will earn her trust back.
6. BABY STEPS! I try to remind myself always move/ try to progress in tiny amounts, even smaller than you think. If she is nervous with you just near the cage start with desensitizing her with being comfortable with you in the room or a few feet away and gradually getting closer ect...
I think us humans want instant results and sometimes we need to let nature and our birds guide the speed of progress to a certain degree.

7. A ton more of others I am sure will be here to help you more than I can soon. Hang in there and don't feel too discouraged.

First of all good job on getting the bigger cage! Secondly, I think the two of you will soon recover from this scary ordeal. If I were in your position I would wait a bit until the bird has calmed down and then try to rebuild that trust all over again. Start by talking to the bird in a soothing voice and once he/she is used to your presence you can start the taming process.

I know you're worried, but I know without a doubt that you and your budgie will have a very strong bond :)

Sometimes you have to do things like this. Neither of you may like it, but it's better in the long run. It's great you could get her a new cage!

I'm sure that in a day or two she'll settle down in her new palace and meanwhile you can reassure her with your voice and talk to her a lot, she'll know you love her and don't want to hurt her :)

To regain her trust, try and just re-establish some of the things you used to do when you first were taming her. Put your hand in the cage slowly, offer her millet from your hand, etc. In time, she'll remember what a great start you both had to your relationship and she'll trust you more, you'll see :D

You're doing great and keep up the good work
