I got a new budgie last night. At the store it's cere looked pretty dark so I assumed it was a young male, still possibly a female but I wasn't sure. It was my favorite of the flock, so I got it anyways. Now it's in it's new cage and it hadn't been eating or drinking at first and wasn't really moving around so I put the food and water on the bottom of the cage and left the room to come on here. It seems like it has eaten because there are pieces of food on the floor and it's on the swing instead of the perch! But it's cere looks kind of purplish. It has white on the edges. There also looks like there's some pink in it as well. I don't have any pictures because I just got it and I don't want to scare it. The cere has whiteish color around the nostrils (holes) and the rest sometimes looks pink but other times it looks darker with pink and blue tye dye color. I'm starting to think it's a girl! The black on the head also looks like it started to come off but I'm not sure if it's the breed. it looks more grayish up closer to the front or like its missing feathers. Also aside from this is looks like the cat got its tail. I found feathers next to him (the cat) and I think thats why it moved. what should I do? it looks like theres blood at the end of one feather

Here's a picture of what it looks like.. I did take it out of the cage because i seemed to be doing a lot better and it did step up after I held my finger in front of it for a little while

Welcome to the forums!

A picture of your budgie would definitely be helpful, maybe you can take one once your little newcomer is more settled in.
If the cere has a light bluish colour mingled with white and white circles around the nostril area, then you have a budgie girl.

Do you mean your cat got to the cage and managed to rip the tail feathers out of your budgie?
For your budgie's safety it really is best to place him/her on a room where your cat can't have access to. Even when your budgie is in the safety of the cage.
If your budgie is bleeding, you can stop it by applying some corn starch on the affected area.
If there is bruising or visible wounds from the cat attack, you should take your budgie to an avian vet in order to avoid serious life threatening consequences.

Best of luck with everything! I hope your budgie will feel better soon from the ordeal with the cat.

thank you very much! he is safe now and the budgie is in my room where the cat isnt allowed but he must've snuck in. theres no visible blood or damage on the bird itself but the cat did manage to get a few tail feathers that were sticking out of the cage and there was a little bit of blood on the end of the feather. I was also wondering if the tail feathers would grow back and how long it would take for them to

Yes, the tail feathers will grow back. It should take about 4 weeks on average for them to grow. And you're welcome!

Hello and to the forums!

You have a beautiful little boy Does he have a name yet?

I agree with Aluz concerning the cat, it's important he's in a room that's off limits, which it sounds like he has

I hope to see you around and it's great to have you with us!
