Carefresh bedding - is it safe to use?

Hey! so i was just wondering about the carefresh bedding, since my mum is complaining about how "messy" the newspaper looks that ive been using looks... ive heard of people using carefresh bedding under their grates, and i was just wondering if it'd be ok?

I use newspapers on top of the bottom grates in all my birds' cages and change them each morning and evening.
Changing the papers frequently keeps the "mess" to a minimum. ;)

If you want to give Carefresh bedding a try, it is safe for budgies. :)

Thank you!
Personally I don't mind the newspaper - but i will try out the carefresh bedding. :)

Also, I've heard that cat litter is unsafe. How about Breeder's Choice cat litter? It's made out of recycled newspaper.

I haven't heard of breeder's choice (or maybe I'm just out of the loop since I haven't had a cat for seven years :giggle:) but we use ExquisiCat Natural made of recycled paper on the bottom of the dove's cage since she likes to forage around and doesn't go everywhere when she flies :)

Natural odour control
No additives or chemicals
Highly absorbent – superior performance
Suitable for all cat breeds
Biodegradable
Economical – long lasting
Lightweight – easy to handle
Virtually dust-free – reduces tracking & will not mark floors
6 litre, 15 litre, 24 litre and 30 litre packs
It seems pretty safe to me, but i won't use it until im certain that it won't hurt her. :)

I just reviewed the information at the Breeder's Choice Website.
From both the customer reviews and the manufacturer's information, the product appears to be "budgie-safe".

Our product contains >99% recycled paper (post-consumer). No new material is used in our product. The recycling of paper saves valuable landfill space, saves energy, reduces pollution and uses less resources than manufacturing from virgin material.

Our patented process is Process Chlorine Free (PCF). This means that it does not use any bleach whatsoever (chlorine, oxygen-based or elemental). Bleaches contain chemicals which may increase respiratory risk and produce toxic by-products. These can adversely affect humans, animals and the environment.

Our product relies on the natural absorption qualities of paper, and does not utilise additives or chemicals. Coating, anti-clumping and scent additives (which only mask odours) may pose health threats to humans and animals alike because they contain, create or utilise chemicals, allergens, fumes and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.

After use, our product can be used as surface mulch in gardens or will decompose beneficially in a managed landfill facility. Paper biodegrades over time with the assistance of oxygen and water. Mulching of paper (especially when mixed with other organic material) can help suppress weed growth, retain water, help protect plants from frost and reduce soil erosion.
