Default budgies who don't scream and screech

Hi,

I'm a new member and I've had a lot of experience with all types of parrots but not budgies. I am thinking of getting a budgie this week from a breeder. I have read conflicting information regarding the noise level. Some people say their budgie screams and screeches loudly a lot. I would like to hear from those who have a single budgie that does NOT scream. I am hoping you are in the majority! Thanks.
Margo

Budgies mostly do 'scream/screech' but it's nothing compared to a parrot. They are mostly a lot quieter, even in comparison to a cockatiel the noise is a lot less.

I have a single budgie and besides from when he gets excited, he is a pretty quiet bird. He mostly does a single chirp and the chattering that budgies tend to do but he'll have a few spells a day where he will scream but it's usually because he's flying or there's some noises he can hear that cause him to react, like something on the TV.

I don't think the noise level with a budgie is bad at all. I think the conflicting information comes from people's personal pets having their own personalities. The same way that some budgies are really playful and others not so much, I think the noise is also a factor. Some like to be really vocal.

Welcome to talk budgies. I am sure you will get a lot of input/feedback on your question. We had a single budgie when I was a youngster, and it was a pretty quiet bird. Some chirping and singing, but no screeching or squawking. I have four now, and I don't hear anything worse than a little night time scolding when they are deciding who is sleeping where...

Hello and welcome to Talk Budgies!

Budgies do love to sing and I don't find their song too loud nor overwhelming at all. The melody is quite pleasing to the ears in my opinion. The sound volume is normal and not ear piercing when compared to other small birds like lovebirds and larger species of parrots.
You can get an idea by taking a look at some videos of budgies singing on Youtube, for example.

I find male cockatiels to be noisy. I read that Budgies are not as noisy as Linnies. I hope that is true. Generally speaking is what I'm looking for. I have watched the you tube videos. The talking budgies are adorable. I didn't listen to the budgies that are in a group. Just single pets. Thanks for your input.

I have a young female budgie that is very quiet. During the day I play a Youtube video of wild songbirds and she's learned to mimic some of the wild bird sounds from the video, which is quite pleasing to listen to. She never screams or screeches, but I think that is just her personality. We don't watch a lot of TV, or have much activity for her to compete with, which might be another reasons she's so quiet.

Hi there and welcome to the forums

My little girl has her days when all she wants to do is sit on the highest point she can find and scream. Mostly, however, she's very quiet, she chatters a lot and chirps.

I hope to meet your new little friend soon if/when you get him/her! We love pictures here

It's great to have you with us and I'm excited to see you around the forums. If you have any questions on your new little bird, we'd be more than happy to help!

Hello and

We have two budgies and love to hear their brief little chatters. Clouds in particular is a fantastic singer. Every so often there is a bit of a screech, especially when Sky wants to play tag and Clouds wants space so ne can get over his moult

Mostly they are quiet but they love music. Some sounds will get them going, like when Clouds argues with the pressure cooker.

My personal tolerance threshold for non-melodic noises is very low, so I could not live with loud birds.

I hope this helps

I personally don't think budgies are loud.. I own 3 birds now and 2 of them have their screeching moments. But there are only a few moments during the day. I've owned one really loud hen in the past but in was a hormone thing.
Budgies are very sociable birds and once you become a friend to them, they see you as member of their flock. They are great companion birds and you'll have many happy moments with them My hen acts like a human and she's 7 years old
If you have further questions, post one and we'll be able to help you
