So last week we were given the green light to stop the quarantine
After a few days of having Clouds and Sky out of their respective cages in turn, we finally let them out at the same time. There was a lot of happy fluttering and excitement. They both immediately went to the tree and within a few seconds were kissing
Remember Sky is still a very clumsy and excitable baby whilst Clouds is a grumpily moulting snooty gentleman. So what happened next should have been anticipated: Sky is constantly trying to play with Clouds, who doesn't really want any of it. Sky has also crash-landed a couple of times on top of Clouds, who took instant and direct offense.
So now the situation is this: Clouds will have nothing to do with Sky at all (except they call each other sometimes when they're not sure where the other one is).
The only game they ever play together is 'tag' (where Sky is always te tagger and Clouds always the one trying to get away).
They moved in together very quickly. Sky followed Clouds in his cage and the latter did not object.
As advised, as soon as that happened we reorganised everything in the bigger cage, which confused Clouds a lot but probably prevented any territorial issues from arising. Clouds is very tolerant of Sky in the same cage as him, as long as Sky doesn't try to come near for a cuddle. If he does, Clouds will make to headbutt him, but never quite does. He doesn't really go at him with his beak, just his head (which is pretty big in every sense of the term as we all know).
They fall asleep with a two-bird-gap between them (at Clouds' insistence) but when we go to get them they are right next to each other -which tells me that Sky somehow creeps up to Clouds while the old crabby codger is asleep.
Sky eats from a plate on the floor of the cage and Clouds from his feeder. Clouds drink from the fountains and Sky from a dish at the bottom of the cage.
Sky loves to bathe and Clouds only enjoys showers.
Clouds sings to things but doesn't touch them. Sky nibbles things and sings to Clouds (who pretends to ignore him).
Sky loves climbing and walking around, Clouds would do anything to avoid debasing himself in such a way.
Sky loves being scratched around the head, Clouds only tolerates to be stroked (sometimes) on the tummy.
Could they be any different? I don't think so.
I am feeling a little bit sorry for Sky, being treated that way by the grumpy old Clouds (who's still not even one, remember?). I even thought of going back to get another baby from the same lot... But I'd like to give it more time first. It seems to me that Clouds is a bit (a tiny little bit) less stand-offish every day.
He's still as bipolar as ever (one good day, one bad day, one good day, one bad day...) and surely that doesn't help with the progress...
I'll try and take some good pictures of these two soon. Fingers crossed it won't be pictures of them fighting!
