Unhappy :'(

I haven't been on this forum for a while because I haven't had any problems with my little cuties. I came visit this community again for something that has already happened. Something very sad.

I left on a one month vacation with my family and we left some neighbors/family friends in charge of our place. Mom had typed up a big list of things for them to do while we were gone. We also told them what to do in person. One thing on the list: Feed and water the budgies.

In the middle of the trip we realized they hadn't been contacting us, contrary to the fact that contact info was left with them. We were worried, but continued on with the trip. Close to the end of the trip, Mom contacted one of the people left in charge, and his reply was that everything is alright.

Fast forward to today. We arrived home and checked over stuff, everything was indeed ok, except for one thing. One of my siblings said, "I'm going to see the birds!". Then when I went up the stairs I heard, "Where did Tyler go?". My sister went to my room. Again a similar phrase, "Where did Jason go?". I looked at both cages and indeed Jason and Tyler were gone. Joey, my sister's Budgies was sitting in the corner of his cage looking depressed. Boey, my brother's bird was looking the same way. Boey won't come out of the corner. Fortunately I was able to cheer them up a tad with millet.

There was food and water in the bowls and the new bag of bird food was half empty. I have no idea what happened. Only signs of anything were feathers beside the cage.

Sorry for this long post, I just didn't know where else to go.

Oh, this is so depressing I'm sure you must feel very distressed. I hope an explanation from these people will be forthcoming.

My thoughts are with you.

Wow. So, now what? I would be calling them constantly to get answers... Maybe they put them someplace else?

This is a terrible thing to come home to.
Don't give up, keep calling those people until you find out exactly what happened to your babies. Did they let them out of their cages? Could they be in the house somewhere?

I can't imagine how scared and frustrated you are. Wishing you the best.

The people watching them should feel ashamed of themselves for being so irresponsible and not letting you know.

Now what? I don't know. I'm still in shock. At least two out of four survived. I don't want to call them, I don't want them to feel bad. But I want to know what happened. As for putting them somewhere else, maybe. They have budgies at their house, so they could be easier to take care of that way. But on the other hand, why didn't they take all of them to their house, and why didn't they bring them back?

Ya, I'll maybe call them tomorrow. It's 11:00PM where I live. I doubt that they let them out of their cages, but it's a possibility. They obviously opened the cage because the food and water dishes in my cage were moved. The cage door was closed when I got home though. I would probably hear squawking (they are talkative birds) elsewhere in the house if they were loose. So I don't know.

Please keep us posted and by all means come back for support as much as you need.
It feels better when you're able to talk about it with people who understand

Honestly, at this point i would do everything to get answers. I know you're thinking about their well being and don't want them to be upset as well, which is great but i really think you should call... I'm kind of the more up front kind of person Do not feel bad at all! They're your birds and you deserve answers. Even if, god forbid, they passed away.. i would honestly still want to know how and why. Its not like one is missing, and since its two birds, i would feel highly concerned. Even if they were sick, and there was nothing to be done, i would want answers. Plus, they should've called you for a heads up or something... Maybe they just took the birds with them for the time being like you said, but i don't know why they didn't take the other two. The ones left behind also seem a bit taunted from all this too... i would call them and be completely honest with them saying "Hey mrs/mr.. i came home today but after looking around, i don't seem to be able to find my birds. Did you by any chance take them with you?" Or something along those lines.
