Exclamation Worried about Rosie

We found a parakeet in the street a couple of days ago. We got her a 18 x 18 x 24 cage with toys and perches from craigslist bought some food watched mountain of you tube videos and read a few books about them. Straight after she was found she couldn't stop eating and drinking. Its been three days, all she does is sit in the same spot, feeds once a day, doesn't drink and barely makes a noise. She's not fluffing up her feathers, but does look like shes panting sometimes. Is she okay? Otherwise she looks beautiful and clean.

Hope someone can advise
Thanks
Nava

Hello and welcome , Rosy sounds like she was very hungry and exhausted. Keep her cage in a warm an quiet place so she can rest. Cover her cage on three sides with a blanket this will help her feel safer.
Rosy will be feeling very insecure and not really herself for a while she needs to settle and become healthy again. Has she been checked over by a vet at all? If you can post a picture of her we can have a general look at her feathers, cere, eyes. Get some probiotics and sprinkle this over her seed crumble mix. She basically has been on a stressful and tiring journey she needs o recover.

Hello there and welcome to the forums!

It's so good of you to give Rosie a loving home Apart from being stressed, exhausted, and scared, remember that she's in a new environment. Give her a few days to settle in and she will perk up, I'm sure. I would also take her to the vet for a wellness check up since she's been outside for days, and probiotics as Cathy mentioned are a great idea

I can't wait to see some pictures of her and I hope to hear more about little Rosie. Karma for rescuing this little one, and if you have any questions please do ask as we'd be more than happy to help you learn more about these lovely little birds

It's great to have you with us!

I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised at such a quick and concerned response! Thank you! Trying to find a way to upload a photo because she's beautiful. Feathers are bright and she doesn't look shabby in anyway. How much is a vet visit? At first we were handling her a lot. Now we know better. We'll leave her be for now. Will try the suggestions you made.

Have you got Photobucket? It is easy to use and free to down load. Most members here use it without problems. If you do still have troubles PM me and I will send you a link and help guide you.
Yes Rosy will benefit from being left to herself apart from food and water changing and the occasional hello. What colour are her poops? Are they solid and made up of two parts or a bit runny looking this is a sign of stress . Have a read through this link.

We live near golf mill in Des Plaines thanks

Poop looks good. Trying to get used to how much poop one bird can produce! She's doing alot better! She's coming lower down in the cage. We"ll let her out as soon as she becomes more lively.

Nice to hear she is doing well. You are not too far from Niles Animal Hospital & Bird Medical Center please check out the website. This would be the closest avian vet to you and is my vet as well.

Welcome to the forums, Nava! I'm glad to hear you have rescued and given Rosie a new home. It's great she is feeling a lot better and settling in well.
Best of luck with her!
