Default Cory is annoying Melody, should I worry?

Cory always tried to get Melody's attention but lately the situation got worse and he is annoying her a lot.

I've noticed quite a few times that whenever she is trying to clean her feathers he'll disturb her, maybe he is trying to tell her that he can help her cleaning up but she gets mad and says pipipě to him while trying to bite him. However he doesn't give up and comes back all the time.

I've made a video this morning to show you how insisting he is, although he was way more clingy yesterday afternoon, sometimes it's so terrible that he starts to follow her everywhere and she tries to escape by flying but he doesn't leave her alone.

Should I worry? She's not interested in him in "that" way and probably never will. They have been together since they were born and get along well when he doesn't try to hit on her (and now that happens most of the times, unfortunately) but maybe I should get Cory a companion?

I was thinking of another budgie, he got along well with my friend's one when I had to leave them behind in Japan last year. The problem is that if I get a boy there may be the chance that Melody gets in love with him which will leave Cory sad and lonely. If I get a female then maybe Melody will get jealous and I cannot afford to get a boy and a girl to make 2 pairs so..a cockiatel perhaps? Anyway before jumping to conclusions in buying another little friend I would like to hear your opinions and advices about what to do regarding his behaviour.

Thank you

Oh and after he finished to disturb Melody he started to "flirt" with the perch, the continue of the previous video is here.

I haven't seen anything to be concerned about, your Cory is just trying to win your girl's affection and Melody is playing hard to get, this is perfectly normal in the budgie world and there's nothing wrong with that. I see no aggression nor signs of distress on your budgies, they look perfectly well and content.
Once your boy realized Melody wasn't paying much attention to him, he gave up and went to a different place on the cage to continue with his playful and charming ways. All normal and perfectly healthy budgie behaviour. The fact that it is Summer may also have to do with Cory's more amorous advances, but then again it's all normal.
They can continue to live their lives together with no need of further friends.

The problem is that happens all the time and I was concerned whenever is going to make Melody stressed because she doesn't seem to be interested in him at all.

Perhaps I worry too much but in these last 9 months they have been through lot of changes and even had to fly on an airplane for 13 hrs so I guess I am just trying to make their life as easy and confortable as I can.

If you say it's normal and I don't need to worry then I trust your judgement.

I agree with Aluz, look's very normal, and while she is not interested, she doesn't seem to get distressed over it. You have some beautiful bird's...

Thank you, 2 days ago I noticed that Cory injured his nose and I suspect it may have been Melody biting him when he annoyed her too much.

I attach 2 pics here, it was hard to focus on the nose so I had to keep him for a few secs.

Am I still worrying too much? maybe they are like brother and sister having fights and hurting each other but not in a serious way. Yday when I came back from the nail salon I tried to take Cory to check his weight and Melody feel threatened from the new nails and bited me very hard in order to protect Cory. So cute

The injury doesn't look too serious, and he could have easily have banged it up on a toy, or bars of the cage. I'd say continue watching them. If she looks like she's getting aggressive ((Meaning screaming at him and pecking him hard)) then separate them for a while. But their mating behavior looks normal to me. Mine play this same game with each other till the girl breaks down and starts wanting more from him.

From what I see on the video, she isn't upset at all. She's just telling him to back off, and he's obeying. If she was upset her feathers would go tight, and she'd chase him all over the place. But instead, she stays fluffed up and preens herself. To me that's her teasing him.

Beautiful birds btw... he's my favorite kind of budgie, violet spangle opaline, and I love her coloring and beautiful band of white. Love dominant pieds as well.

Oh she does that sometimes, it's funny when that happens because it makes me thing of my grandma chasing my grandpa with a frying pan all over the house

Thanks, I wonder which colour would their babies be

I have an off topic question that might sound silly but...since there are birds that make eggs that are not "fertilized", are there also birds that mate but don't make eggs? And in the first case, why do they make it? I had 2 cockiatels when I was little and I remember Ciuffina (the female) making lots of eggs without a nest and they never hatched. I searched on yt long ago and seems like she's not the only one having that kind of behaviour.

Female budgies can lay eggs without ever having a mate. If you give a female somewhere she can lay down comfortably, then she can, and more than likely will lay eggs, of which will all be infertile.

If a female doesn't have anywhere to lay down, and is in a cage with a male budgie, they will mate, but she won't lay eggs, this is natural.

And sometimes they'll lay infertile eggs even when they have been mating, just because the boy missed his mark
