Question Leg band question

Legg band question... Please move If there is a better section for this question.

Ok if it ain't broke don't fix it. Right? Okay. But I still worry.
My female budgie has a band, it's not a big deal to me and liked that I could track her possibly or Identify her if I ever had to.

Now it's become a little bit more of a concern, as it isn't a solid ring type, but crimped closed with a seam. It hasn't ever been a problem but lately I have noticed her playing/messing with it and appears to be trying to get it off. I can't see any swelling or signs of irritation so that's good. I am just concerned because I have had her almost 5 years and never have seen her notice it was even there until a few weeks ago. It's not a constant bother but enough to get me to post this.

Shall I let it be or do I make an appointment with the vet to remove it? Thanks

Is the band made of metal?
If it is a metal band with a seam that is crimped closed, then yes - I would make an appointment with the vet to have it removed.
I had one like that removed from one of my lovebirds.
Peachy still has his metal band on but it does not bother him and, from what I can see of it, I believe it is actually a closed metal band.

If I ever have to take Peachy to the vet for any reason, I plan to have his band removed at that time.

Conversely, I leave all closed plastic bands in place on my budgies.

Thank you so much. Yes, it is a metal just as you described. I will be calling to make an appointment to get it removed.

Smile Leg bands

Problems develop with leg bands when they slip up to the larger part of the leg and start leg swelling also foreign material may get between the leg and the band. scaley mites may get under the band and cause swelling and infection. A band may also get caught on toys. The up side is breeder information is required to show and the band must be a closed band,Also an ABS or BAA band can ID a lost bird through the organizations. We check several times a year to be sure the bands are working properly. the split plastic bands are usually used to ID different mutations, especially rares, and splits. Blessings Jo Ann

Tried to get a good photo it seems to me that her band isn't very safe...
Calling the vet in the morning when they open.

It's definitely a split band and being metal I wouldn't want to take the chance of it getting caught on something if she were my budgie.
I believe you having it removed is a smart thing to do.
