Ownerofleaf is on a distinguished road
Unhappy Randomly scared bird

I have had my bird leaf about a month and a half now. He had begun to accept me and chirped happily when I got home and enjoyed getting out of his cage and sitting on my shoulder. Suddenly a few nights ago I put him to bed as usual and in the morning he was shaking, would not move and panics whenever I try to get him to perch on my finger or even talk to him. He has been like this for 3 or so days now. He eats and drinks but then returns to the same spot on his perch and does not move. He does not play with his toys anymore either. I'm very concerned and heartbroken as seeing and playing with him is the best part of my day. Does anyone know why this could have happened or has it happened to anyone else? i am starting to become very worried

Welcome to talk budgies. How does his droppings look ? Is he fluffing up at all ? Does sound like he has become fearful for whatever reason, but he could be ill too. Do you have dog's or cat's or could someone have tried to handle him and scared him ?

Oh no poor Leaf, do you cover the cage at night time so he feels safe and protected? Having the cage covered over the top and and sides helps even during the day. He could of suffered a night fright for whatever reason some budgies suffer a lot and others luckily don't. I leave a small night light on and one end uncovered so h can actually see enough if scared. Where about is his cage left during the night, could a mouse or other vermin got in his cage possibly? I hope he is feeling better soon stress is not good for a budgie.
Perhaps you can move his cage, maybe leave some soft background music playing during the night for him.

Hello and welcome to Talk Budgies!

Cathy and Randy have offered excellent advice. Has anything changed in your house in the last few days? Many budgies are very sensitive to new and unexpected things, and this may be a contributing factor.

I hope everything turns out well for your little one. Keep us posted and we'd love to see pictures of him!
It's good to have you with us--there's no better place to go for advice

Hi and to Talk Budgies!
I'm very sorry to hear about little Leaf. I think something other than just being frightened is going on - it sounds to me as if he is ill.
I'd suggest you take him in for a wellness checkup with a good Avian Vet as soon as possible. Please let us know what you find out.
