Exclamation My bird has something in its eye

I got my first parakeet today and when I was going to move him from his carrying case to my cage he flew around in my room. After a while of trying to get him in the cage he finally got in the cage but ever since then I noticed something in his eye. It's in the corner of his eye and almost looks like a piece of dust or a feather that is sticking out of his eye. I'm not sure if I should be worried or if he'll get it out on his own. He keeps blinking his one eye more than his other. In the picture the thing in his eye is the white spec in the corner of his eye (his eye is closed in the picture). Sorry for the bad quality but he wouldn't face the camera. I don't want to try to get it out of his eye myself simply because I just got him and he's still very scared of me. Please help

Hi and to Talk Budgies!

I would suggest you catch your little budgie in a soft cloth and very carefully rinse his eye out with Sterile Saline Solution.
The picture isn't clear enough for me to see what the foreign object might be.

Welcome to talk budgies. I agree with Deborah on rinsing it out with a sterile saline. Very nice looking bird, would love to see some more pics...

Hello how unfortunate this has happened, your new little budgie will be stressed but you must see what the object is and hopefully remove it. Catch him as smoothly as possibly the best time to try this is when it is getting dark or in a dark room as he will be more settled and not jumpy. Then do as directed by Deborah, hope it something that will move with some help from you, if not then a vet visit is in order to do it.
Please let us know how you go soon.

Thanks so much for all your feedback! I woke up in the morning and nothing was in my budgies eye anymore so he must have got it out himself. False alarm, but thanks.

Matthew,

I'm glad to hear your little budgie is better this morning.

You'll want to set up a birdy first aid kit so if something like this happens in the future you'll be ready and able to deal with it.

https://talkbudgies.com/emergency-roo...t-aid-kit.html

Additionally, be sure you locate an Avian Vet so if there is ever an emergency you won't be caught unprepared.

Glad to hear your bird is fine. He got it figured out himself and removed the foreign object. Olive is a great name, may he bring joy and happiness in your life and become a wonderful companion.
