Default Albino

Just a quick question, we have a 3 and a half week old baby "Peppa" who is albino, no color anywhere eyes are red and have been since birth ( photo doesnt do it justice sorry) but was wondering do they get color in their cere as they mature to tell which sex they are?

Hi there!

The Ino gene that makes albino and lutino budgies is sex-linked, meaning in certain cases it's actually easy to tell gender from birth. This happens when for example both parents are normal budgies (not visual albinos nor lutinos).
From those pictures it seems Peppa is a girl.
Can you tell me the parents colours?

The cere of a young albino female will develop normally and have the same colours as a normal female budgie when out and in breeding condition.

Albino males ceres work differently, the ceres will retain the immature pinkish translucent colour throughout their lives.

If the father doesn't have the red eyes, then he is split for the Ino gene and that makes your Peppa a female.
Even if the father was albino, he would still have female albino offspring because the mother is a normal budgie.
To have a male albino budgie, both copies of the gene must be present in both parents and for this to happen, the mother would necessarily have to be visual albino.
