I just got two budgies - Leo and Caleb - from a lady who had tamed them. She showed me a few pictures of them sitting on her hand/finger and even on her foot in a line with two other budgies.
When I brought the two guys home, they initially sat on my finger as I transferred them to their cage - I even snapped some pictures. They seemed to know how to step up. That was yesterday. Now, they will take millet from my hand and even move towards my hand if there's millet in it, but they won't step up when I put my finger in front of them. They'll move away.
I guess I shouldn't be so surprised since they are in a totally new environment and the lady also told me that the only people the birds had ever interacted with were her, her boyfriend, and her niece and nephew... so they need to get used to me and their new environment.
They're otherwise settling in surprisingly well. They've been chirping a lot, moving around the cage, playing with toys a little bit, and eating right in front of me. So that's great.
Any tips for getting these two already tame but shy budgies used to me?
Thanks! And I'll share pics later.
