Default Help identifying gender and color mutation?

We just got a budgie a few days ago, and would like some help identifying the sex, age, and mutation. I have had parakeets in the past but it has been quite a while. I have been looking all over the web and can't settle on an absolute answer so I thought the best thing was to find a good forum to ask.

Thank you!

I took some better pictures of Nimbus.

I'm thinking that he is a sky blue greywing, but I'm no expert. I'm clueless on his age at this point. I don't see any bars on his head but his other markings are pretty light, so I may just not be able to see them? Any input would be appreciated.

Question, though... Since it seems like I have a male and female now, am I correct in thinking it will be OK to house them together as long as I don't provide any nest site? We got the second one to be a companion for the first, and I really don't want to house them separately.

Zapdos seems at lot more active and happy now. She is finger tame, so I'm hoping that helps get the new one trained so they can both come out of the cage often. They both came from the same bin, about a week apart, so they quite possibly could have been in the cage in the store together at some point.

(The associate said they get their birds from Barney's, anyone ever heard of it? I'm in NE Ohio)

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new budgie!

Those pictures seem to all have been taken with a flash and doing so will influence the colours on the cere as well as feather colour, making it look much more brighter than it really is in person.
It's always best to take photos in natural sunlight (no lamp shades and no flash from camera)

Still, basing from those photos I'd say you have a cute budgie girl. She is a sky blue, possibly yellow face type II opaline budgie. Pictures taken in natural lighting will confirm the gender and whether your budgie is a yellow face or a golden face.

As far as age goes, your budgie is very young, I'd say she is about 2 and a half months old.

I took some without the flash, but it is pretty overcast right now so I'm a bit short on natural light.

I think her name is going to be Zapdos (the electric type legendary bird Pokemon.) My 7yo son wanted a bird very much so we finally (after about a year) gave in and got him one. I realize I am going to be the primary caretaker, as with the cats, fish, and tree frog, but oh well. :-)

Hello and welcome to the forums!
From the last picture you posted, little Zapdos does look like an adorable little girl
I can see that the cere is chalky whitish and has rings around the nostrils, which indicates a little hen.

My little girl, Mallorn, looks exactly the same! Zap is gorgeous and I hope to see lots more of her in the future

Feel free to ask about anything you're concerned about as we'd love to help! It's great to have you with us!

Hi and to Talk Budgies!

I agree that Zapdos is a beautiful little girl.

Nimbus is adorable but I'll leave the gender and mutation determination to our experts.
