Default Chattering

New bird mom here.....my 2 darlings came from a home where they were in a cold, dark room for 2 months. Before that they were in a car for a month. When I found them they were so quiet. Now they chatter and "talk" to one another. They especially seem to like when I'm in the room and really chatter up a storm. My question is, how much should they vocalize? I talk to them all the time and play the radio when I'm gone. Am I doing the right thing? They've been through so much and I want them to be happy.

Some budgies (like mine) seem to vocalize quite a lot. Others are more quiet. There is no real set "normal" as it depends on each bird.

It sounds as though your budgies are becoming used to having a safe and loving home and like interacting with one another and with you.

You are doing GREAT!! The more you interact with them, the better. You are one of their "flock members" and they LOVE your attention. Playing the radio for them when you are not around is perfect.

The two little darlings are very fortunate that you've rescued them and are giving them the time, care, love and attention they deserve.

Enjoy your babies and thank you for giving them a good life!

We'd LOVE to see pictures of your budgies if you have some to share.

Your new birds are so privileged to be with you! My 2 1/2 year old loves to sing to me and chatter. The 8 month old is just starting to 'notice' me. I am usually home in the evenings but if I am out and have been out since the morning, they get a bit spooked and won't eat. Then when I get home and call their names they answer but still won't eat until the next day!

Hello and welcome

Your new budgies seem like they are doing very well. I'm sure they will be 100% happier in their new, caring home

I can't wait to see pictures of them and keep up the good work! Feel free to ask questions if you need to, we are always eager to help
