Question Puffed from aggression?

So I recently have realized that one of my budgies comet is cage territoral. He is an angel out of his cage but a nippy little brat once he's inside (I of course still love him). A couple days ago I noticed whenever I went up to him he was puffed up and I quickly began to worry he was sick, but his poop seemed fine, he was very active and noisy and was still eating and drinking so I knew that wasn't it. When I was walking away from his cage I realized that the farther away I got the less puffy he was and the closer I got he would puff right back up again! I have heard of them puffing up head feathers out of aggression but what about their whole body? I know he is not sick because even when he's sleeping when he should be the puffiest if sick he is completely normal looking, but then as soon as I wake him up and he registers what is happening he puffs up again! Super strange! he also seems to be a lot nippier than usual. I have also heard about budgies smart enough to fake sickness for attention, although I dont think that's what is happening (let's just say comet isn't the brightest of budgies) what are your opinions on this? I assume it's just aggression but I obviously want to be sure!

Puffing up the head/face and body means your budgie is relaxed and comfy, this sometimes is accompanied by some beak grinding. They usually get all puffy when getting ready to sleep for the night or for a nap. Budgies also puff their cheek feathers (face and head area) when they want to be preened, it's their way of asking.

The "angry puff" is located in just one place, they actually ruffle a small portion of the feathers right below the neck area and in between the wings.
It's very similar when compared with dogs that are readying themselves for an attack, their fur also stands close to the neck area.
During this "angry, threatening" puff their cheek and forehead feathers can also puff.

Then there is another type of puffing up where the birds' feathers are all puffy (looking like a perfectly round ball of feathers), they do this to conserve heat when feeling sick.

Ok thanks, I just looked back on him and it's his head, cheeks and that back of the neck area that your talking about being completely ruffled up I'd happening and then his belly is just barely puffed out, not at all like a circle.
