Default Sammy

This is Sammy and s/he is seven months old.

This is Toby, and s/he is also seven months old. I don't know whether or not they are related. They came from different stores, but one store gets birds from the other.

Very pretty budgies! Do the stores in your area really get birds from the same source, like a breeder?
I am saying up front that I am NOT an expert in gender identification... some of the experts will be along to say for sure but Sammy (very pretty sky blue color!!) looks to be female to me. Let's confirm that before you believe it, ok??
Toby, your pretty gray .. seems to be a boy.
Notice I use words like SEEMS and appears and stuff, ok??''
Let's see if I'm right!

Thanks, Judy. I am so happy to have found this site, although I am still learning how to navigate.

I think store one actually breeds the birds (maybe at home, I'm not sure where). Store one sells them, but if store two has a request for something (like a budgie), store one will supply it. In my case, I drove up to store one to get Toby.

Indeed, your guess is absolutely correct Judy!

There is no doubt whatsoever that Sammy is a beautiful girl and Toby is a handsome boy.

Since you mention the fact that both budgies came from the same source then it is likely they can be related.
This is not a problem, your budgies can continue to be buddies and share a cage. As long as matings/breeding is not encouraged then they can lead perfectly normal lives without thinking of raising a family. Just don't give anything that they could potentially use as a nest nor any hiding areas (no coconuts nor half coconut toys, no cozy tents, no nest boxes nor anything of the sort).

Wink Sammy (Samantha) and Toby

Thank you so much, Aluz.

The only hard thing for us is that we had been accustomed to thinking of Sammy as a boy, and Toby as a girl. We will have to adjust our thinking.

After reading what is necessary to breed budgies, I will be happy to do anything I can to prevent it. I am not ready to be a grandmother.
